Nuestro Municipio San Gil, Capital de la Provincia de Guanentá, fue fundada en el año 1.689 por Don Leonardo Currea de Betancur. Territorio poblado por los indios Guanes durante la época prehispánica, fue asiento de una civilización de gentes bravías, que pertenecían a la familia Chibcha. Los Guane eran expertos tejedores y talladores de piedra. La región cuenta con uno de los mejores climas de Colombia, con una temperatura promedio de 24 ° C. ubicada a 1.114 metros sobre el nivel del mar y tiene 50.000 habitantes.
Our Municipality San Gil, Capital of the Province of Guanentá, was founded in the year 1689 by Don Leonardo Currea de Betancur. San Gil es la ciudad pionera de los deportes extremos y de aventura en Colombia. El turismo de naturaleza es un importante reglón pues cuenta con cascadas, ríos, cavernas naturales, montañas, balnearios y cerros. El Parque Nacional de Chicamocha PANACHI ubicado a 45 Km de San Gil, cuenta con un teleférico de 6,3 Km, que recorre el majestuoso cañón del Chicamocha hasta llegar a la Mesa de los Santos, este sitio también cuenta con el novedoso Acuaparque. Otros atractivos turísticos son: el Municipio de Barichara el cual está a una distancia de 22,4 Km, población declarada patrimonio cultural del País. Igualmente, el Cerro del Santísimo ubicado en la ciudad de Floridablanca a 90 Km de San Gil, entre otros.
